This notice explains how MOTwise handles information when you use the vehicle-check service and related buyer tools.
MOTwise is the service name. Privacy and data-protection enquiries can be sent to motwiseai@gmail.com. Pre-launch legal completion required: before public production launch, this notice must also state the full legal name of the person or organisation operating MOTwise as data controller. Public launch must not proceed until that legal operator identity is published and consistent with the Terms of Use.
Depending on the feature you use, this can include a vehicle registration number; vehicle and MOT information returned by configured data services; saved vehicle/report data held in your browser; technical request information such as IP address, user agent, request timing and status; and a sanitised vehicle fact pack used by the optional AI assistant.
We use the information to provide the vehicle check and requested buyer tools, secure and troubleshoot the service, prevent abuse, understand technical service health, and maintain the user's chosen local experience. Where UK data-protection law applies, the intended lawful basis is normally our legitimate interests in providing and securing the requested service. We do not use this basis to override your rights and interests.
A registration entered into the production interface is sent to a same-origin MOTwise server-side endpoint in the request body, rather than in the browser request URL. MOTwise then requests available vehicle and MOT information from configured official services such as DVSA MOT History and, where configured, DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service. API credentials remain server-side.
Saved Vehicles, Saved Reports, current-journey context, theme preferences and similar product state are stored locally in your browser using local or session storage unless the product explicitly tells you otherwise. These items normally remain until you remove them, clear browser/site data, or the browser removes them. The current service does not silently create a persistent MOTwise customer profile from those local saves.
If the configured AI assistant is enabled and you use it, MOTwise may send a sanitised vehicle fact pack to the configured AI provider. The current assistant fact pack excludes the registration number and keeper or personal identifiers and is limited to the vehicle/MOT evidence needed for the selected request. AI output is decision support and may be incomplete or inaccurate; it is not an automated decision about a person with legal or similarly significant effect.
Some decorative or representative imagery may be loaded directly in your browser from Wikimedia Commons. When that happens, your browser connects to Wikimedia to retrieve the image, so standard network information such as your IP address, user agent and request metadata may be visible to that service. MOTwise does not send a vehicle registration number to Wikimedia for the rotating landing-page imagery.
Our hosting platform can create request and runtime logs containing technical fields such as IP address, user agent, route, status, timing and request identifiers. MOTwise application logs are designed not to deliberately write vehicle registrations or free-text assistant content. Operational logs must be retained only for the minimum period needed for security, reliability and troubleshooting, using the retention period available on the production hosting plan. We do not keep browser-saved vehicle reports on a MOTwise server in the current product.
Recipients can include our hosting provider; configured official vehicle-data services such as DVSA and DVLA; the configured AI provider when you request an AI feature; and Wikimedia when your browser retrieves externally hosted imagery. Each provider processes information under its own applicable terms and privacy arrangements.
Some technology providers may process information outside the UK. Before enabling any production provider that receives personal data internationally, the MOTwise operator must confirm an applicable UK transfer mechanism or adequacy arrangement where required and record that assessment. This is part of the production supplier/privacy review.
The current product does not use advertising or behavioural-marketing cookies. Browser storage is used for functions the user requests, including saved vehicles/reports, session continuity, interface preferences and dismissal states. If non-essential analytics, advertising or marketing storage is introduced, MOTwise must obtain any consent required by UK privacy rules before activating it.
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal data, restrict or object to processing, receive certain data in a portable format, and complain about how your information is handled. Some rights are subject to legal conditions and exemptions.
Where MOTwise relies on legitimate interests to process personal data, you have the right to object to that processing. This right must be considered in light of the particular processing and applicable law. You can raise an objection or ask how the legitimate-interests assessment applies to your information by emailing motwiseai@gmail.com.

We will review this notice when the service materially changes—for example if MOTwise adds accounts, payments, server-side profiles, new analytics/marketing technology, new data suppliers or materially different AI processing. The updated date at the top shows the current version.
